What is the Shield Arms DS-Series Standard Mag Catch?
The DS-Series Standard Mag Catch is a steel magazine catch that replaces the factory polymer catch in double-stack 9mm Glock pistols. It's the catch Shield Arms DS-Series magazines (the DS18 and DS20) are designed to run with. It fits the Glock 17, 19, 34, 45, 47 and 19X and comes in two versions: Gen 3, or Gen 4/5/6. It's made in the USA.
Why DS-Series Magazines Run With a Steel Catch
DS-Series magazines have steel bodies, and the factory Glock mag catch is polymer. We believe the best path to long-term reliability is steel on steel or polymer on polymer, so DS-Series magazines are designed to lock into a steel catch. The DS-Series Standard Mag Catch is that catch.
It's a one-time swap. Once the catch is installed, every DS18 or DS20 you add is ready to run.

Which Catch Do I Need?

Choose This Catch |
| Glock 17, 19 or 34, Gen 3 |
Gen 3 |
| Glock 17, 19 or 34, Gen 4 / Gen 5 / Gen 6 |
Gen 4/5/6 |
| Glock 45, Glock 47, Glock 19X |
Gen 4/5/6 |
Not sure which generation you have? Gen 4, Gen 5 and Gen 6 Glocks are marked with their generation on the slide. A Glock 17, 19 or 34 with no generation marking is almost always a Gen 3. The Glock 45, 47 and 19X were never made as Gen 3 pistols, so they always take the Gen 4/5/6 catch.
Important Compatibility Information
Compatible Pistols: Glock 17, 19, 34, 45, 47 and 19X (9mm), Gen 3 through Gen 6 where the model exists, with the matching catch version.
Compatible Magazines: Shield Arms DS18 and DS20 steel magazines.
Factory Magazines Not Recommended: Factory Glock magazines are polymer. Running them against a steel catch increases wear on the magazine, so we don't recommend using factory polymer magazines once this catch is installed.
Made in USA with Lifetime Warranty
The DS-Series Standard Mag Catch is made in the USA and backed by our 100% lifetime warranty: if it ever fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship, we'll replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a steel mag catch to run DS-Series magazines?
Yes. DS-Series magazines are steel, and the factory Glock catch is polymer. We believe the best path to long-term reliability is steel on steel or polymer on polymer, so DS-Series magazines are designed to run with this steel catch.
Which catch do I need: Gen 3 or Gen 4/5/6?
Choose Gen 3 for a Gen 3 Glock 17, 19 or 34. Choose Gen 4/5/6 for a Gen 4, Gen 5 or Gen 6 Glock 17, 19 or 34, and for any Glock 45, 47 or 19X.
How do I tell which Glock generation I have?
Gen 4, Gen 5 and Gen 6 Glocks are marked with their generation on the slide. A Glock 17, 19 or 34 with no generation marking is almost always a Gen 3. If you're still unsure, contact our support team before ordering.
Can I use my factory Glock magazines with this catch?
We don't recommend it. Factory Glock magazines are polymer, and running them against a steel catch increases wear on the magazine. Once this catch is installed, run steel magazines like the DS18 and DS20.
Does one catch work for both the DS18 and DS20?
Yes. The DS-Series Standard Mag Catch works with both. Choose the version that matches your pistol's generation, not the magazine.
How do I install it?
Swapping a Glock mag catch is a common at-home job with basic tools. Step-by-step guides are at shieldarms.com/installation.
Should I buy the catch on its own or a Starter Kit?
If you're buying your first DS-Series magazine, a Starter Kit is the simplest option: the DS18 Starter Kit and DS20 Starter Kit each include one magazine and one DS-Series catch. Buy the catch on its own for a second pistol, or if you already have DS-Series magazines.
Is the catch made in the USA, and what does the warranty cover?
Yes, it's made in the USA. Our lifetime warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
Who Should Buy the DS-Series Standard Mag Catch
- DS-Series Owners: Set up a pistol to run DS18 or DS20 magazines
- Multi-Glock Owners: Add a catch to a second Glock 17, 19, 34, 45, 47 or 19X so your DS-Series mags run in both
- Anyone Replacing a Worn Catch: A steel replacement for a pistol that runs DS-Series magazines

The Shield Arms Advantage
Shield Arms built the first steel-body aftermarket magazine for the Glock 43X and 48, and the rest of the industry followed. The DS-Series takes that construction to the double-stack Glock 17 and 19, and the DS-Series Standard Mag Catch is the steel catch built to run it. Made in the USA and backed by a lifetime warranty.
One swap. Every DS-Series mag after that is ready to run.
