What Is the Shield Arms S15 Gen 3?

The S15 is a patented 15-round steel magazine for the Glock® 43X and 48. It fits 15 rounds flush in the 43X/48 grip, with nothing hanging below it, so the pistol carries the same. It was the first steel-body aftermarket magazine for the 43X and 48. It runs with a Shield Arms steel mag catch, takes our +2, +5 and +10 extensions, and is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty and Spring for Life.

The Glock® 43X and 48 carry like a single-stack. We wanted 15 rounds in that slim grip without adding length, so we built a steel magazine around a patented staggered geometry. The thin steel walls and the stagger are where the room comes from, and the magazine still sits flush.

The S15 was the first steel-body aftermarket magazine for the 43X and 48. The rest of the industry followed. Gen 3 is the toughest S15 we've built.

Run It With a Steel Mag Catch

The S15 is steel and the catch your 43X/48 shipped with is polymer, and the two aren't compatible. Swap in our Standard or Premium steel catch, both made in the USA. It's a one-time install, and our installation guides walk you through it. Another manufacturer's catch may cause reliability issues.

S15 Gen 3 FAQ

Which pistols does the S15 fit?

The Glock® 43X and 48, all generations. For the single-stack Glock® 43, see the Z-Series. For the Glock® 19 and 17, see the DS-Series.

Do I have to replace my mag catch?

Yes. The polymer catch the pistol ships with isn't compatible with the steel S15. Install a Shield Arms steel mag catch, or start with the Starter Kit, which includes one.

Will my polymer 10-round mags still work?

They'll run with the steel catch, but we don't recommend it for regular use. Steel on polymer adds wear to the magazine over time.

Does it change how the pistol carries?

No. The S15 sits flush with the bottom of the grip, so your grip and holster stay the same.

How do I get more than 15 rounds?

Swap the base pad for an S15 extension: 17 with the +2, 20 with the +5 or 25 with the +10. Prefer one piece? The S20 holds 20.

Nitrocarb, Silver Nickel or Black Nickel?

All three resist wear and corrosion. Nitrocarb is a QPQ nitrocarburized finish; Silver Nickel and Black Nickel are electroless nickel. Choose the look you like.

What changed from Gen 2?

Thicker, tougher steel, raised ribs on the back for factory-like positioning, US-based manufacturing on new tooling, and updated Nitrocarb and nickel finishes.

Does it work in a grip-chopped pistol?

Yes. A 43X or 48 converted by our S10 Grip Chop Service runs the S15. Add a Grip Chop Sleeve to restore full grip length.

What is Spring for Life?
